FEBS Summer Fellowships 2023
FEBS Summer Fellowships are awarded to young promising students in a FEBS country wishing to gain practical scientific experience in an institution located in another country within the FEBS area.
Applications as well as the referees' letters of support must be received by 5.00pm CET on Monday 1st May 2023.
Incomplete applications will NOT be accepted.

Fellowship Call Details
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be engaged as master or PhD students in laboratory research and must not have yet submitted a doctoral thesis.
- Fellowships are not awarded for attendance at courses, symposia, meetings or congresses.
- In order to be eligible to apply for a Summer Fellowship, applicants need to be working in a laboratory in a FEBS country and to be seeking to work in a laboratory in a different FEBS country.
- Applications must be aimed at furthering the science of biochemistry and molecular biology.
- Past holders of a Summer Fellowship may not apply for another Summer Fellowship. However, past recipients of a Summer Fellowship who fulfil the requirements of a Collaborative Developmental Scholarship may apply for such a Scholarship, but this application may only be made after at least one year of completion of their Summer Fellowship.

Candidates must provide details for an experienced scientist who has agreed to submit a letter supporting the application through the website.
The referee must be from the institution where candidates have worked or studied in the preceding year and will be asked for an opinion on the candidate's practical skills, scientific curiosity and dedication, strong/weak points and degree of maturity. Candidates are encouraged to ask their PhD supervisor to provide this letter.
- The application as well as a referee's letter of support must be submitted online by 5.00pm CET on Monday 1st May 2023.
Fellowship Details
- The Fellowship will consist of a single sum of money, the total amount of which will be determined by the FEBS Fellowships Committee, in consultation with the FEBS Treasurer. In 2023, it amounts to €3,500.
- Applications must be completed in English.
- The Fellowship should be used between July 1 and October 30 of the current year. Requests for date changes will require the authorization of the Chairperson of the FEBS Fellowships Committee.
- Within three months of completion of the Fellowship, Fellows must electronically send a short report detailing the work done while in receipt of the Fellowship to the Chairperson of the FEBS Fellowships Committee. The FEBS Fellowship should be acknowledged in any work published relating to the project funded, and two reprints of each article should be sent electronically to the Chairperson of the Fellowships Committee.
- The author of the report judged to be the best in that year will receive a prize, which currently amounts to €500.

Application Timetable
- The application process begins on Wednesday 1st February 2023.
- The application and one letter of support must be submitted through the website by 5.00pm CET on Monday 1st May 2023. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Decisions will be communicated to the applicants no later than 15th June 2023.
- Fellowships will commence earliest on 1st July 2023.
